KPX works on projects from early concepts through to final delivery. We can deliver any of the elements below, but many of our clients work with us because we can cover all aspects of the project. This means we can make things fit together smoothly.
Creative Direction We first meet with the artists and key creatives, to discuss the concepts that will drive the show. We talk to the production designers, video equipment suppliers and technical crews to work out how best to create and deliver the video. We make and present a ‘production book’ showing a number of concepts based on our meetings. This consists of mood boards, storyboards and reference images. These concepts are often linked to individual songs. After discussion with the key creatives, we refine the concepts and deliver preliminary budgets.
Film & Graphics ProductionWe work with a wide range of film-makers, animators and designers who have experience in making moving images work for live shows. It’s a unique challenge, because film and graphics work differently in a live setting. A live performance needs to be enhanced by the video behind it, not overwhelmed by it. Also, screens in live design are often built in unusual formats, so the image composition and creative treatment has to take account of this. Because we are involved in the whole process, we storyboard and shoot, thinking about the final result on stage.
Technical DesignLive shows now involve often a huge myriad of cameras, playback devices and screens. We understand how all this stuff works, and how to put it all together so that it works smoothly and at the highest quality. We also understand that a concert venue is not a TV studio, and that live shows don’t always run to script. We’re all about making systems that work out on the road. This is backed with years of real-world experience on some of the world’s biggest touring shows.
Interactive DesignNew technologies are opening up startling new possibilities for live design. We’re using custom software to create unique looks with live cameras. And making connections between the performers and the audience through concepts that feature user-generated content.
On-site Post-ProductionWe bring road-ready video editing equipment to rehearsals. Working with the video crew and lighting designer, we work out the best method to synchronise video to music. We color-correct the footage to work best with LED and projection screens, and to harmonise with the lighting scheme. We deliver the footage in the cleanest, purest form for the video playback equipment. Our crew have extensive technical experience in post-production and broadcast engineering.
